(I think my apprehension about this type of post stemmed from the seeming bragging undertones many of these entries had, and that's definitely not what I wanted to accomplish here, I promise.)
Lost of things did happen this year, new experiences were experienced and new friendships were formed, and overall, I'm in a better place than I was in the last few years.
This past year:
- I switched disciplines at work to something that I'm sure will cause me a great deal of stress, but I believe will ultimately be more challenging and fulfilling than my old job. Hopefully.
- I met some really amazing people this year, from Internet BFF Jenn to Dance BFF Meaghan (an actual IRL friend), both of whom make my life better on a daily basis.
- I've learned to not dwell on the friendships lost. Or at least to dwell less.
- I also stepped out of my comfort zone by saying YES more often. YES to meeting new people, YES to a random happy hour and YES to doing stuff as opposed to sitting in front of the TV, watching another tired episode of the Kardashians.
- I've taken more dance classes last year than I have in my entire life, combined. I feel like I've improved tremendously. AND I STARTED POINTE!!!! I mean, who does that at 29???? (I first typed at almost-30, but it looked gross, so I deleted it. 29 is a lot less intimidating).
- I resurrected my blog after a 39839084 year hiatus. Trust me, this deserves a bullet point of its own.
- I met people from the Internet, which still baffles my mind because it's so far out of my comfort zone. Besides Internet BFF Jenn, I also met Michelle, Katrina, and almost-Megan, another blog friend from Vancouver and my monochromatic soul sistah, but alas, plans changed at the last minute. The point is, had this been any other year, it would've never happened (see also: stepping out of my comfort zone)
I'm making no resolutions this year, because ultimately there's no point -- I end up breaking every one of them and then feeling like shit about it. So this is a year of no resolutions, no rules and no guidelines. This is a year of not feeling like a failure because I didn't accomplish some bullet point on some stupid list. This is a year of ME.
What are you resolutions this year? Are you even making any?

Basically my resolutions are to keep going strong in the directions that I set up for myself last year -- keep building my Etsy shop, blog, etc., and also to keep going strong in my graphic design program. My ultimate goal is to be financially independent (as in... not poor), so all of these little things are building blocks towards that larger goal! It's important to me to keep that larger goal in mind - really helps motivate me!
dwell less...that's a good one! simple but important. nice post.
Love this refection Tanya! I have also learned about letting go of old friendships and being open to making new ones, I'm convinced this is part of being happy. I love the whole saying yes more and I am trying to not only say yes but be the one to make the plans.
Very nice post girl. I always wanted to take ballet lessons and I admire you for doing so. Bravo!
Wooooooo for Internet BFFs!! <3
My resolution is to convince GERRY that a Kelly Clarkson would make a really awesome birthday celebration... ;) (kidding) (like 99%)
Sounds like you accomplished a ton in 2011 as is!! I'm so glad that we met up last year and hope we can hang out again more this year! :D
Also, pointe shoes scare me. I quit ballet after like a year and a half of it and I am itching to try again, but I don't know...
I'm happy to have you in my "IRL" life! Thank you for your kind words and for your thoughtful post.
Meaghan
In 2012, we will become RL friends! : ) I just know it!!
<3 <3 <3 you know I meant it!!! you make my life :D
Yes! We should get together again soon. Lunch maybe?
Pointe shoes scare me too, but I'm slowly getting over this fear. Oooh you should come take a class with us if you decide to start up ballet again.
Gerry remains 99% unconvinced.
It's never too late :) We have 60 year olds in the class doing the splits, so um.. :)
Great resolutions and goals! Your etsy shop is adorable too :)
What a nice reflection list! Cool stuffs! Congrats on the job switch, too. :) Are you still a fellow code monkey?
I epic fail at making resolutions in the first place, but I do have things on my to do list. All the way at the top is the splits. I SO want to be able to do those. Kudos on your ballet accomplishments. :)
Hope your you year will be all kinds of awesome.
I completely agree with the lost friendships thing. That's something that I'm really struggling with now-letting go of the fact that people have moved on. It's so hard not to take it personally. But I'm trying! And I'm glad I'm not the only one.
